import outstanding Zelmani patches into ET trunk

   these all apply on top of the released version of GRhydro (rev 339)

   merged some patches that should have been merged. Hence patches 8,9,10 are now empty. Patch 15 contains the "else" clause requested in #900.

   patches 1--15 were applied. patch 16 requires support by MoL which has not yet been positively reviewed in #839 where progress has stalled.
